Pepper 'Long Horn' (Capsicum annuum), also known as Italian Long Horn or Corno di Toro (Horn of the Bull), is a traditional open-pollinated Italian heirloom prized for its sweet flavor, thin skin, and long, curved pods. Growing on sturdy, heavy-yielding bush plants 24 to 36 inches tall, it yields abundant tapered peppers measuring 6 to 10 inches in length. Ripening from dark green to a brilliant, glossy red, the crisp pods possess thick, sweet flesh completely free of heat. Outstanding for fresh slicing into salads, roasting whole on the grill, frying in olive oil, stuffing, and drying for sweet pepper powder, Long Horn remains a staple in Mediterranean culinary gardens.
