Description
Black Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) is one of the most beloved and iconic open-pollinated heirloom native flowers in North America. Growing into sturdy, multi-branched plants that reach 24 to 36 inches in height, it produces a heavy profusion of brilliant 3- to 4-inch daisy-like blossoms. Each flower features radiant, golden-yellow ray petals surrounding a raised, dark chocolate-brown central cone. Thriving in heat, drought, and poor soils, Black Eyed Susan provides non-stop, bright summer color from midsummer straight through autumn. It is an essential component of native wildflower drifts, sunny borders, and cutting gardens, serving as a vital nectar source for butterflies and native bees while providing winter seeds for songbirds.
