Tomato Roma (Solanum lycopersicum) is the world’s most famous heirloom plum tomato, celebrated as the gold standard for home canning, rich tomato pastes, and thick sauces. Producing heavy yields of uniform, 2–3 ounce pear-shaped fruits, it features thick, meaty walls, very few seeds, and low moisture content. Growing on compact, determinate vines that set the majority of their heavy crop over a concentrated period, it is an essential garden favorite for making fresh salsas, sun-dried tomatoes, and rich marinara sauces.
